NEW YORK (77 WABC) — Results are in from preliminary antibody testing across New York. Governor Cuomo said 13.9% tested positive for having COVID-19 antibodies. He said the breakdown indicates men tested positive at 15.9%. With the city as the coronavirus epicenter, the majority of positives were in the five boroughs–43%.
The disturbing amount of COVID deaths in nursing homes, including 35 yesterday, has led Cuomo to launch an investigation by Attorney General Letitia James.
Nursing homes are required to follow several steps including isolating COVID residents in quarantine. If the facility can’t properly care for the ill resident, they need transfer to another nursing home.
New York saw another “breathtakingly tragic” 438 deaths from the coronavirus, Cuomo said.
But he noted the “curve continues to go down,” despite new hospitalizations still flat, which Cuomo said is “not great news.”
Cuomo also berated Sen. Mitch McConnell, who said states should declare bankruptcy instead of getting federal funding.
“You want to see that market fall through the cellar, let New York State declare bankruptcy,” Cuomo said. “…You will see a collapse of the national economy.”
The governor called it “vicious” for McConnell’s suggestion of a “Blue State bailout.”
“How ugly a thought? Just think of what he’s saying. People died. 15,000 died in New York. But they were prominently Democrats, so why should we help them? For crying out loud, if there was ever a time for you to put aside your pettiness and your partisanship…it’s just not who we are as a people.”
