NEW YORK (77 WABC) — State officials in New York will vote Wednesday on whether to cancel the Democratic presidential primary.
Senator Bernie Sanders suspended his campaign last month making Joe Biden the presumptive nominee.
The chairman of the state’s Democratic party wants the cancellation, saying it would reduce the risk of spreading the coronavirus.
Governor Cuomo had already moved the date from April 28 to June 23. He also announced this week that all ballots will sent to registered Democrats allowing voting by mail. Cuomo also expanded absentee voting, but that still required applying for a ballot by mail.
If the presidential primary is canceled, primaries would still be held for congressional, state legislative and other races.
