Governor Cuomo talks MLB return with Mets COO Jeff Wilpon

NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Governor Andrew Cuomo appeared on his brother Chris’ CNN show on Wednesday night.  When discussing how things have changed over the last month and what to expect in the future, the possibility of live sports came up.

The New York Governor mentioned having a conversation with Mets COO Jeff Wilpon, saying it would be good to bring back with the proper restrictions in place, including no fans in attendance.

“I think it would be good for the country,” the Governor told his brother on ‘Cuomo Prime Time’. “I think it would be good for people to have something to watch and do. To fight cabin fever. I think it’s something I’m going to pursue.”

Gov. Cuomo did note that some agreement will have to be in place between the league and players because of the financial impact games without fans will have on Major League Baseball.

The league has discussed the possibility of having some sort of season in Arizona.  On Wednesday morning, Dr. Anthony Fauci said he felt the only way sports should resume this summer is without fans.

Gov. Cuomo said the return could help people feel like we’re nearing light at the end of the tunnel.

“You know we have to start to move to normalcy”.
