Tri-state Area Closures

NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Occupancy limits are in effect across the tri-state area to help stop the spread of COVID-19. The governors of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut have banned gatherings of more than 50 people. Most bars and restaurants are closed to patrons, but are offering takeout and delivery service.  Gyms, movie theaters and casinos have closed indefinitely. New York and New Jersey have mobilized the National Guard to assist in containment and other matters, including food distribution.

NEW YORK

• Governor Andrew Cuomo signed an executive order that all schools in New York are to close by Wednesday until April 1.

• Mayor Bill de Blasio signed executive order to restrict restaurants and bars to delivery and take-out only. They can receive a summons or even be arrested if they refuse to abide.

• The New York Catholic Archdiocese has canceled all church services, including those at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, until further notice.

• Nightclubs, movie theaters, small theater houses and concert venues must all close.

• Non-essential employees are asked to work from home.

NEW JERSEY

• Governor Phil Murphy established a curfew that bans residents from being out between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., with the exception of essential travel.

• All schools — public, private and parochial — statewide for at least two weeks starting Wednesday, March 17.

• All  indoor malls will close at 8pm tonight.

CONNECTICUT

• Governor Ned Lamont ordered schools statewide to close on Tuesday, March 16, and hopes to reopen by March 31.
