NEW YORK (77 WABC) – Can Alex Rodriguez actually buy the New York Mets?
After the potential deal with billionaire Steve Cohen fell through, the Mets ownership group still plans to move forward with selling the team. The New York Post reported on Friday that the former Yankees third baseman has serious interest in the upcoming auction.

Any hopes for A-Rod to buy the Mets might be a stretch, considering he would likely need to put together a large group of investors in order to do so. In 2017, A-Rods former teammate Derek Jeter lead an investor group in purchasing the Miami Marlins. Jeter put up $25 million of his own in the $1.2 billion sale.
The Post points out that A-Rod and his fiancé, Jennifer Lopez, have discussed buying a team after Jeter took over the Marlins.
Its noted that the Mets are alerting potential buyers that the expected demands are around $3 billion in the auction sale.
