NEW YORK (77 WABC) — The American Heart Association helped kick off New York Fashion Week on Wednesday night with its 16th annual Go Red For Women Red Dress Collection fashion show at Hammerstein Ballroom.
Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Meghan Trainor kicked off the show with performances of her songs “Blink” and “Me Too” and Shania Twain capped the evening singing “That Dont Impress Me Much,” “Lifes About to Get Good,” “Any Man of Mine” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman. Before the celebrities hit the catwalk, Tamron Hall, who served as host for Wednesday night’s event, addressed the crowd about her shock over the number of new moms who are affected by heart disease.
“I didnt know until last night that it was the number one cause of death in new moms,” Hall said. “I just had a baby nine months ago. I was able to go home with my son, but other women were not. But we know that when women come together demanding change, change can happen. And the time for change is now.
“Tonight I ask you to help change the future for ourselves and fo the millions of women whose lives can be saved by the actions we take to ensure women are seen, counted, represented, treated.”
Along with Trainor and Twain, 26 other celebrities walked in the annual fashion show, which raises awareness for heart disease in women. Among them were Ali Stroker, A.J. Andrews, Bailee Madison, Camille Schrier, Constance, Darlene Love, Eva Gutowski, Gretchen Carlson, Heather Graham, Jackie Cruz, Jennifer Tilly, Jeri Ryan, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, Laura Marano, Loren Gray, Lyric Ross, Madeline Stuart, Marin, Nicky Hilton Rothschild, Paris Hilton, Rachel Smith, Robin Givens, Roselyn Sánchez, Sara, Sarah Chalke and Sunny Hostin.
