Earl weakens as it comes up the coast. NYC will only see the edges of the storm, but eastern LI will get tropical storm conditions. The LIRR suspended its Montauk line operations east of Speonk & the Fire Island Ferry won't be running. There was a gulf oil explosion: no deaths, injuries, or leakage this time. In Afghanistan a chaplain was killed;the first chaplain KIA since Vietnam. A federal judge overturned a Nebraska ban of US Flag mutilation. A golfer blasting out of a sand trap with his sand wedge iron caused a spark which set the entire Orange Co. Calif. golf course on fire.

Hurricane Earl menaces the east coast. LI is getting ready with 50 shelters for 60,000 people. fifty Muslim leaders defended the building of the "Ground Zero Mosque". In Pakistan, violence erupts anew; this time over a Crickert match. Bibi & Abbas are in DC trying to work out a mideast peace deal. Bernanke will appear today before a congressional panel to discuss the economy. A nut job took over the Discovery Channel's office and held them hostage before a SWAT team took him out. And a Bakersfield Cal Physician was found dead in the chimney after trying to break in, like Santa Clause, to her boyfriends place......so it goes.

Pres Oba,a formally ended combat operations in Iraq & spoke to the nattion last night. It was not as negative as some expected & he even gave a slight kudow to GW Bush. Meanwhile Sec Def Gates is in Iraq for the official end to combat. On the economic front people spent only slightly more than this time last year, meaning that the economy is still sluggish. tourists on the Outer Banks of NC were starting to leave, fearing the wrath of Earl. Bibi & Abbas arrive in DC today to begin Israel/Palestine talks. Both sides are far from reaching an agreement

Two men were arrested in Holland for having suspicious items after switching flights to a different destination in Chicago. It is believed they were conducting a dry practise run. The items were made to look like bombs to test the security scanning system. Hurricane Earl is now a cat 4 storm and is headed to- wards the East Coast. Doug says the USA is over-regulated, citing 2 stories: one in which Calif. wants to ban single use (shopping)bags citing choking dolphins; and another where Mass wants to ban novelty lighters because kids are attracted to them. A new study says moderate drinkers are healthier than non drinkers.

Obama will address the nation announcing the end of combat in Iraq. And the Prez will host a summit betweem the Palestinians & the Israelis. Roger Clemmens expected to be arraigned today on 6 federal felony counts of Lying to Congress. Hurricane Earl is expected to become a category 3 and head to the North East. Obama blamed a right wing network of misinformation for the perception that he is a Muslim

Some bad economic numbers due out today. The Commerce Dept. is scheduled to release its revised figures on the economic growth. Economists expect a bleak picture with predictions saying the growth rate may be cut in half. Some say we may slip back into recession. Gov David Paterson may face criminal charges for giving false testimony regarding the receiving of Yankee baseball tickets. BP angered some feds when they were unable to say who was in charge when the Great BP Oil Spill occured. The govt slapped a $22 million fine on AA for allowing wires on their MD-80's to decay.

NYC Council approved of a new building that will be built on the site of the current Pennsylvania Hotel. The owner of the Empuire State Building says the new building will kill his view and wreck the NYC Skyline with the Empire at the midtown center. The Mosque at Ground Zero has new supporters. A group of family members who lost relatives on 9-11 says the Mosque should be built & broke ranks with other 911 victims family groups. The mosque developer now wants to do another mosque in Harlem. The Pakistan flood is spreading after a levee broke.

Mexican marines found bodies of 72 people in Northern Mex...it was drug cartel related. John McCaon beat JD Hayworth in GOP Primary in AZ. Wash Post reports that the CIA believes that the Yemen branch of Al Quaida is a threat to the US Homeland security. Sales of previously owned homes dropped 27.2% in July....stox fell on the news.

The LIRR , the biggest commuter rail system in the USA, is frozen because a fire killed all the switches in and out of Jamaica railyard forcing all trains to be routed by manual levers. Arch Bishop Timothy Dolan is meeting with Gov Paterson, but the Cordoba people won't be there.

The man behind the Ground Zero Mosque says that the US First Amendment are more in line with Islam than many Muslim countries. Rains pelted NYC over the weekend causing floods....people standed in LI. This pales in comparison to the Pakistani floods. In Chile mine workers were trapped for 17 days. Alligators are popping out of manholes in Astoria due to the rains.
