(New York, NY) – The push for federalization of the National Guard hit a roadblock in the Pacific Northwest. President Trump has announced his plan to deploy troops to help with immigration crackdowns in Portland, Oregon. However, a federal judge sided with state officials putting a hold on the deployment. Also happening, special envoys for the White House are heading to the Middle East to finalize a peace deal between Israel and Hamas. These are the top headlines to know starting the new week:
Latest on National Guard Deployment
A judge is blocking the federal government from putting boots on the ground in Oregon’s capital, Portland. The judge granted a temporary restraining order on Saturday, claiming that a trial court would probably find the President overstepped his authority as Commander in Chief. Oregon officials filed a lawsuit over the deployment, and the court concluded the move would violate the 10th amendment. The White House announced they plan to appeal the ruling.
Government Shutdown on Day 5
The partial government shutdown continues and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. The Senate this past Friday was unable to advance a funding plan to end the shutdown before the weekend. House Speaker Mike Johnson postponed plans for the House to reconvene in Washington, the next scheduled session is not set until October 14th. Democrats blame the GOP, while Republican lawmakers say Democrats are demanding healthcare for undocumented immigrants.


Special Envoys Heading to Middle East
Officials with the Trump administration are heading to the Middle East to secure a 20-point US-backed peace deal between Israel and Hamas. This coming as the conflict in Gaza approaches the two year mark on Tuesday. Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner plan to meet with leaders in Egypt to bring the negotiations to the finish line. Hamas indicated their support for the plan, as did Israel. However, Israeli airstrikes continue in Gaza despite President Trump’s demands to cease the bombing in order to safely retrieve the hostages.


Diddy Sentenced… and Sued Again
Sean “Diddy” Combs was sentenced to just over four years behind bars. Combs was convicted of two prostitution-related charges in July, and was acquitted of the more serious charges he was facing including racketeering and sex trafficking. The legal troubles don’t end with the federal probe, as Diddy is now facing another new lawsuit. A man who claims he was one of Diddy’s former interns says he got HIV after being drugged and assaulted at a party hosted by Combs.
